The Cottage Occupational Health and Safety policy is a statement endorsed by senior management that expresses the company’s commitment and intent to manage its operations in a safe and responsible manner and comply with current OH&S legislation.

The policy also provides a vehicle to inform its employees, suppliers, clients and other interested parties that a commitment to Occupational Health & Safety is integral to how the company ocnudcts its business.

The Cottage’s attitude to Occupational health Safety and Rehabilitation is reflected in the Company’s Health and Safety Policy.
The Cottage OHS Management System has been applied to all food manufacturing and the aim is to ensure consistency regarding compliance with safety legislation and to maximize safety outcomes through structured safety training of personnel, risk assessment, inspections monitoring and audits.

The OHS Management System of The Cottage includes the collection and reporting on both positive and lag indicators involving such criteria as Communications (weekly toolbox talks), risk assessments, hazard Identification, task observations, workplace inspections, subcontractor compliance, as well as the traditional lag indicators including: lost time injury frequency rate (LTIFR), medical treatment injury frequency rate (MTIFR) and first aid injury frequency rate (FAIFR), etc. The Cottage performance against OHS & Food Safety indicators has been:
 

Audits and Inspections
Workplace inspections are conducted in various ways including: safety committee inspections, supervisor weekly inspections, Project Management inspections, etc.

The safety committee conducts a workplace inspection on all outgoing orders.
Random inspections are undertaken by the Food Authority of NSW and the local council to ensure our food manufacturing is carried out according to food safety regulations.
 
Training
We see it as our role as a food manufacture to ensure that all personnel including staff and employees are aware of their on site responsibilities in respect of OH&S issues. This is achieved through the implementation of on site induction and training programs. The Cottage is committed to OHS training, all supervisors, including employees, will attend a formal OHS training program.

Before commencing work all staff, employees and visitors will undergo a site-specific induction prior to commencing work on the site. Site specific induction training will include but not limited to:
  • Site-specific hazards and risk control measures identified at the time of induction
  • Relevant regulatory and code requirements
  • Site orientation including location of safe access, amenities, first aid and nurse call
  • Product details
  • Project team details including qualified 1st aiders
  • Site Safety Committee details
  • Site specific safety rules and
  • Emergency preparedness and incident management procedures
  • Basic manual handling training
  • The Cottage policies
  • Waste management procedure
  • Environmental controls
